Shopify CSV Product Images Not Importing: URL and Row Checklist

When a CSV imports product titles but some images are missing, the right question is not “did the CSV upload?” It is “can Shopify retrieve the intended image and associate it with the correct product record?” A syntactically valid image URL can still be inaccessible to the service performing the import.

Example: why this problem happens

A supplier spreadsheet contains an Image Src or Product image URL value copied from a private file-sharing page. It loads when the supplier is logged in but fails from another browser, so the importer cannot download the actual image.

Step-by-step: what to do

  1. Open the exact image URL in a private browsing window without logging in. Confirm it returns an image, not an HTML landing page or access screen.
  2. Check for URL typos, unwanted spaces, protocol problems and redirected links. Test multiple problematic records rather than only the first image.
  3. Before resaving a file in Excel or Numbers, preserve original row order. Shopify warns that sorting product CSV rows can break product-image associations.
  4. Review handles and image rows for the same product. Confirm your CSV uses the relevant current Shopify image column names.
  5. Import one affected product at a time and inspect the store image result. Back up existing image assignments before overwriting products.
Important limitation

Don't scrape or hotlink supplier images without permission, and don't generate fake image URLs. Our current CSV tools can flag a non-HTTP image URL but cannot prove remote image accessibility or ownership.

Can our free tools help?

Try with your own file: Shopify product CSV checker, supplier CSV converter, or duplicate SKU finder. The tools are free, local to the browser and do not update your Shopify store.

Common question

Can SellerFile Studio repair missing Shopify images automatically?

Not fully. It can identify some missing or malformed URL fields; it cannot retrieve inaccessible supplier assets or restore images already detached from store products.
